Royal Insiders Claim Meghan Markle Always ‘Thought She Knew Better Than an Institution That’s Been Around for 1,000 Years’
Many royal fans remember watching Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s storybook wedding in 2018. It was a beautiful day, the event went off without a hitch, and everyone was all smiles, giving the appearance that everything was great. But behind the scenes trouble was brewing, and 18 months after saying “I do,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were stepping down as senior royals.
Their decision seemed to take everyone by surprise, from fans to the press to Harry’s own family and the people who worked for them. Now, some Palace staffers have revealed why they were so stunned given how Meghan acted right from the start when she became a working royal.
Staffers say Meghan wanted to run things and ‘thought she knew more than the institution’
Before marrying into Britain’s most famous family, Meghan was a working actor on the legal drama Suits. Most people would recognize that it could be difficult to transition into the royal world. But some of the duchess’s former staffers told commentator and author of Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life Of Royal Servants Tom Quinn that Meghan wanted to dive in headfirst.
As reported by the Daily Mail, they said Meghan wanted to grab “the bull by the horns” and explained why her approach didn’t prove successful.
When discussing Meghan’s early days as a working royal, one of her staffers at the time shared: “It was extraordinary because she was so confident that you could see she wanted to run the meeting rather than learn about the royal family through the meeting. She was a great believer in grabbing the bull by the horns — except the royal family is not really a bull.”
Another person who worked for Harry’s wife told Quinn: “Meghan thought she knew better than an institution that has been in business for 1,000 years and more.”
A former Sussex employee claims Meghan had a ‘messiah complex’
According to Quinn’s book, another person who was on Harry and Meghan’s team when they were still working royals insisted that the duchess had a “messiah complex.” They claimed Meghan was so focused on the global recognition she had gained by marrying Harry that she was trying to figure out how she could become the best-known and most loved member of the royal family.
One of Queen Elizabeth II’s former courtiers admitted that people in the Palace began to worry about that as they became aware that Meghan had plans for her life and wanted to be the star of the family and the person in charge.
Royal aides were then determined not to allow Meghan to outshine Princess Anne, Charles, or the late queen. They added that Meghan seemed to do what she wanted much of the time so they didn’t think she really understood that, when joining the royal family “you don’t do as you please, you do as you’re told.”
Something else that has made headlines over the years is how Meghan treated her staff as she was dubbed “Duchess Difficult” and several of her ex-aides called themselves the “Sussex Survivor Club.” Those who spoke to Quinn were split saying that Meghan would alternate between being “over-friendly and hugging staff to irritated when they didn’t instantly respond.”
