Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been friends for years. They’ve been highly supportive of one another’s careers, and have stood by each other’s side through various stages of positive and negative press coverage. Gomez said she places a high value on Swift’s opinion. It meant a great deal to her when one of her songs moved Swift to tears.

Shortly before Gomez released her song “Lose You to Love Me” from her 2020 album Rare, she played it for Swift and her mother. The moment turned emotional quickly.

“When I played her ‘Lose You to Love Me,’ right before it came out, she and her amazing mom started to cry and then I started crying,” she told iHeartRadio (via People). “You know, it’s very sweet.”

Gomez said Swift’s opinion means a great deal to her. She could trust her longtime friend to be honest with her. Because of this, it meant a lot that the song clearly struck a note with her.

“I value her opinion so much because she’s super honest,” Gomez said. “It’s very helpful, and I love people who are honest.”

Swift recently showed support for Gomez’s engagement to Benny Blanco by requesting to serve as the flower girl in their wedding.
