Snoop Dogg Outright Refuses to Get on Dr. Dre’s Boat
Snoop Dogg has traveled the world, but he likes to stay safely on shore. The rapper’s friend and collaborator, Dr. Dre, occasionally records music from a boat as a way to keep artists focused on the task at hand. Snoop said he wants no part of this. He shared why he likes to steer clear of boats.
Snoop Dogg said he didn’t want to get on boats because of ‘Titanic’
In 2024, Snoop and Dr. Dre teamed up again, decades after their collaboration on Doggystyle. Snoop praised Dr. Dre and his team.
“Dre got a great team. Shout out to the ICU, the team behind the scenes. The writers, producers, the whole crew,” he told Complex, adding, “They so energetic. They so dope. They go on boats, they go to different places.”
Dr. Dre explained why he likes to record on the water. He believes it’s beneficial, but Snoop refuses to try it out.
“We go out in the middle of the ocean sometimes and record,” Dr. Dre said. “We on the boat sometimes for two weeks and there’s a studio there. Nobody can go anywhere. For some reason Snoop won’t come out on the boat.”
He explained that he has concerns about spending too much time on the water after seeing an Oscar-winning film.
“I’ve watched the movie Titanic,” he explained.
Snoop Dogg said he’d be happy to get in a landlocked studio with Dr. Dre
While Dr. Dre works with big names, he is not interested in indulging an ego trip.
“I got a sign in my studio that says, ‘Your ego is not your amigo,’” Dr. Dre said.
Snoop said that this attitude is why he likes working with Dr. Dre. He can learn in the process of making an album.
“That’s what makes it fun for me to drop my Snoop Dogg persona and go over there and just really be a student and be a kid again,” he said. “That’s the fun of being with Dr. Dre.”
He said Dr. Dre always collaborates with impressive artists
As Snoop noted, Dr. Dre has a solid team of people working with him. Dr. Dre shared how he selects his collaborators.
“It’s just like somebody knows somebody and then we meet ’em,” Dr. Dre said. “It’s just, like, your talent gets you in the room. Your personality keeps you there. That’s how it works.”
Snoop added that his longtime friend knows how to bring talent out of people.
“Dr. Dre is the master of utilizing a room,” Snoop said. “Like this room right here. Some of y’all may think y’all not talented in music, but he could find something in every last one of you motherf***ers in here. And you know I ain’t lying.”
Dr. Dre likened it to building a recipe and discovering what flavors work together.
“You’re on cowbell. You’re on tambourine,” he said. “We going to figure this s*** out. It is gumbo.”
