‘The Accountant 2’: When Does Ben Affleck’s New Movie Come Out?
Ben Affleck is back in The Accountant 2. The long-awaited follow-up to the 2016 movie is on its way. Find out when The Accountant 2 comes out ahead. Plus, learn about the cast, storyline, and why the sophomore installment may not be the last.
‘The Accountant 2’ comes out on April 25, 2025

Mark the calendar for late April 2025, fans of The Accountant. The long-awaited sequel hits theaters on April 25, 2025. Expect to see hallmarks the original is known for, from talented mathematician Christian Wolff’s (Affleck) quirks to fight scenes and lines about puzzles.
Once again, Gavin O’Connor is directing. Also returning, besides Affleck as the movie’s lead, is Jon Bernthal as his hitman brother, Braxton. Cynthia Addai-Robinson also reprises her role as Marybeth Medina, albeit with a new job title. As does J.K. Simmons, whose character, Ray King, first sent Medina on the mysterious accountant’s trail.
Other additions to the cast include Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Grant Harvey (Monsters).
What is ‘The Accountant 2’ about?
Unlike the first Accountant movie, Christian and his brother, Braxton, are working together. Per Amazon MGM Studios‘ official logline, The Accountant 2 has Christian teaming up with his brother and Medina, who is now U.S. Treasury Deputy Director, to find answers.
About what? The mysterious death of Ray (Simmons), the director of the treasury department’s financial crimes bureau. The trailer, above, shows Ray writing, “Find the accountant,” on his arm moments before he’s fatally shot in a bathroom stall.
The logline, in full, is as follows: “Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to ‘find the accountant,’ Wolff is compelled to solve the case.”
“Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax, to help,” the logline continues. “In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.”
Watch the trailer, which includes many familiar parts fans will recognize from the original. Think: lines about solving puzzles and Christopher’s childhood friend, Justine (Alison Wright), as the computerized voice who is his right hand.

‘The Accountant’ director has thought ‘a lot’ about a potential third installment
Wolff’s story may not end with The Accountant 2. Affleck and O’Connor told Vanity Fair in February 2025 that a potential third installment is something he’s considered. “I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third,” O’Connor told the publication. “I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years.”
Affleck, who is a producer on The Accountant 2, didn’t go into detail, but he did say another installment is something that has to be “earn[ed].”
“I’m keenly aware of the fact that you kind of have to earn another movie,” he said. “The worst pitfall is to store a bunch of your good ideas for the next installment. If you don’t create an interest demand the first time out there, you’re just going to be playing that to an empty house.”
