When the Jonas Brothers split in 2013, fans were heartbroken—but it also marked the beginning of a new era. Subsequently, Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas each set off on a solo path, armed with talent, fame, and a dedicated fan base. Fast forward over a decade, and the results are in: the Jonas Brothers may shine as a trio, but their solo careers tell three very different stories. And the biggest surprise? The brother once dismissed as the least likely to go solo is slowly but steadily, making his mark.

Let’s break down the Jonas Brothers’ solo eras, ranked from buzzy to breakaway to criminally underrated.

Nick Jonas: The polished powerhouse

Nick Jonas wasted no time stepping into the solo spotlight after the Jonas Brothers went on hiatus in 2013. His 2014 self-titled album featured the sultry hit “Jealous” and Nick embarked on a full-fledged reinvention.

From there, Nick proved he had both commercial and critical appeal. Albums like Last Year Was Complicated (2016) and Spaceman (2021) showcased his range, blending R&B, pop, and synth-pop influences. He also broke into acting with solid performances in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Kingdom (Audience Network), earning props for his dramatic chops.

Nick also returned to his Broadway roots, leaning back into his first love, theater. He starred in Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables, as a child, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012. He is currently starring on Broadway in The Last Five Years.

With multiple charting singles, Grammy nominations (Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Sucker”), and a gig as a coach on NBC’s The Voice, Nick has solidified his solo legacy.

Joe Jonas: The charismatic chameleon

Joe Jonas has carved out a dynamic and multifaceted solo career since the Jonas Brothers first took a hiatus in 2013. After stepping away from the pop scene, Joe formed DNCE in 2015, debuting with the funky, platinum-certified hit “Cake by the Ocean,” which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The group’s playful aesthetic and genre-blending sound earned them widespread attention and critical praise. Their 2016 self-titled debut album continued the momentum with hits like “Toothbrush” and “Body Moves.”

Joe has also proven himself as a fashion-forward figure, often gracing the front rows of Fashion Week. He has twice been the brand ambassador for the fashion line Scotch & Soda.

Joe also stepped into acting, with a notable role in the 2022 war drama Devotion, and lent his voice to several animated projects as well as a stint as a coach on The Voice Australia (2018). His second solo album Music For People Who Believe in Love, drops on May 23, 2025. The first was 2011’s Fastlife.

Kevin Jonas: The quiet hustler

And now we get to the biggest surprise of all the Jonas Brothers solo efforts—Kevin Jonas. Kevin didn’t continue to chase a music career post-breakup. Instead, he leaned into business, family life, and reality TV. But lately, the tides are turning.

Kevin starred alongside his wife Danielle Jonas in Married to Jonas (E!), which gave fans a glimpse into his offstage life. He later co-founded The Blu Market, a social media management company, and the real estate development, and construction company called JonasWerner.

In 2021, he released Blood, a memoir written with Nick, which made The New York Times bestseller list. But what’s boosted Kevin’s stock is his recent charm offensive.

From his hilarious moments on Claim to Fame (ABC), which he co-hosts with younger brother Franklin Jonas, to a TikTok resurgence where Gen Zers have declared him their “new favorite Jonas,” Kevin has transformed from background player to beloved underdog.

Kevin’s presence as a family man has truly won over Jonas Brothers fans. In a TikTok shared by Kevin Jonas, his daughter Valentina (he also has another daughter Alena) tells him that “Little Bird” is her favorite song on 2023’s The Album. When her dad asks why, she says, “Because it’s about us!”

Nick may have taken the crown with the most traditional solo stardom, and Joe’s creative risks earned him a stylish second place—but Kevin’s under-the-radar reinvention proves that fame isn’t the only metric for success. Sometimes, the most compelling glow-ups happen when no one’s watching.
