Kat Dennings Has a ‘2 Broke Girls’ Reboot Idea: ‘It Would Be Different’
Actor Kat Dennings, known for her quick wit and dry humor, has just given fans of 2 Broke Girls a glimmer of hope. In a recent interview, Dennings opened up about the abrupt end of the hit CBS sitcom and floated the idea of reviving the beloved series with a fresh twist.
How Kat Dennings would do a ‘2 Broke Girls’ reboot
“The people who enjoyed that show were cheated out of a conclusion,” Dennings told Deadline, voicing a sentiment shared by many fans who felt blindsided by the show’s cancellation. “But it’s so classic with TV. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll do a Will & Grace and we’ll bring it back.”
The Will & Grace revival, which successfully returned more than a decade after its original finale, seems to have inspired Dennings’ vision for a 2 Broke Girls comeback — but with a unique twist. “I would be open to that,” she said. “We’d be old. We’d be like two 60-year-olds, but not the ’60s old. It would be different. There’d be a time jump.”
It’s easy to imagine what a future version of Max Black (Dennings) and Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs) might look like. Would Max still be slinging cupcakes with a sarcastic quip? Would Caroline have found a way to rebuild her fortune? And how would a time-jump change the dynamic of their friendship and the gritty charm of Williamsburg, Brooklyn?
The concept of revisiting the duo in their 60s opens up exciting possibilities for storytelling. A revival could explore themes of resilience, aging, and friendship with the same humor and heart that made the show a standout during its original run. In true 2 Broke Girls fashion, it would likely be a mix of sharp banter, offbeat adventures, and that unbreakable bond between two very different women navigating life together.
‘2 Broke Girls’ still needs a proper finale
While Dennings’ comments were speculative, her openness to returning to the role and giving fans closure is significant. In an era where reboots and revivals are increasingly common, the idea doesn’t seem far-fetched. Streaming platforms, in particular, have become fertile ground for resurrecting fan-favorite series, and 2 Broke Girls still enjoys a loyal fanbase and solid streaming numbers.
Beth Behrs has yet to weigh in on the possibility, but if both stars are game, a revival could very well become reality. The actor recently expressed gratitude for CBS affording her current sitcom, The Neighborhood, the chance to deliver a proper goodbye. The same wasn’t given to 2 Broke Girls, suggesting Behrs would also be open to a reboot.
As Dennings herself put it, “It would be different.” And different might be exactly what fans are looking for. Whether it’s next year or twenty years down the line, one thing’s for sure: the love for 2 Broke Girls hasn’t gone anywhere — and neither has the hope for one more cupcake-fueled adventure.
