The medical drama focuses on the personal and professional lives of the healthcare providers at the fictional Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. The original cast included Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, T. R. Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Isaiah Washington, and Patrick Dempsey. Over the show's 18 seasons, the cast has seen several shakeups through character departures and deaths.
While the series featured an ensemble cast, the story of Meredith Grey (Pompeo) is the constant throughout the seasons. In 2019, Grey's Anatomy became the longest-running American primetime medical drama series.
