Halloween, also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a holiday observed by many nations on Oct. 31 each year. A popular theory explains that Halloween traditions are rooted in Celtic harvest festivals, which are thought to have pagan roots. For some, though, it's a celebration on the eve of the Christian fest of All Hallow's Day — which includes attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead. For many others, it's a time to wear costumes, go trick-or-treating, carve pumpkins, watch horror movies and tell scary stories, pull pranks, have a bonfire, visit a haunted house, and more.
