Hip-hop
Hip-Hop was born in the Bronx borough of New York City in the early 1970s. DJ Kool Herc is credited as being one of the pioneers of the genre. At a 1973 dance party, he spun the same record on two turntables, playing with some of the effects hip-hop is known for today. The crowd went wild. It wasn't long before other DJs in the area started putting their own spin on the techniques.
50 years later, hip-hop is a multibillion-dollar industry. Some of its biggest stars include Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Future, Tupac Shakur (1971-1996), and The Notorious B.I.G. (1972-1997).
