She went on to act in several other television shows, such as Diff’rent Strokes and Fame. In 1982, she signed a recording contract with A&M Records. Her third and fourth records with them, Control and Rhythm Nation, cemented her as a pop icon. In 1991, she signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Virgin Records, which made her one of the highest-paid artists in the industry.
