Star Wars
Star Wars is a sci-fi media franchise set in space that encompasses films, TV shows, novels, and video games. It was created by George Lucas with the debut of the eponymous film in 1977.
The original trilogy of the American space opera—A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return of the Jedi—starred Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.
In the late '90s and early 2000s, a prequel trilogy was released to share the origin story of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). This trilogy starred Natalie Portman as Padmé Amidala, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine.
A sequel trilogy—Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)—was more recently released starring Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron.
