The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom is a British historical drama based on author Bernard Cornwell's novel series The Saxon Stories. Filmed in Hungary and Wales, the TV show takes place in the late 800s and early 900s in Anglo-Saxon England. There, King Alfred rules Wessex, the last kingdom uncaptured by the Vikings, who remain at war with the Saxon army.
Amid the turmoil lives Uhtred, who as a boy was taken by the Vikings from his Saxon nobleman father. Now a man, Uhtred, played by the German actor Alexander Dreymon, must decide whether his allegiances lie with his birth country or those who raised him.
The series premiered in 2015 on BBC 2 in the United Kingdom, where it aired for the first two seasons, after which Netflix picked up the show.
