The Simpsons is an animated comedy TV series created by Matt Groening. Set in the fictional town of Springfield, it follows the lives of the Simpsons family: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.
Groening initially created The Simpsons as shorts that appeared in The Tracy Ullman Show beginning in 1987. It became its own series on Fox in 1989.
With over 700 episodes, The Simpsons holds the record as the longest-running American animated series, longest-running American sitcom, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series. It is widely considered one of the best and most influential series in TV history.
